From various on the flist: Locus is polling at large for the best fantasy story of all time. Many many wonderful and illustrious names are there.

Among the stories to choose from: "Death and the Lady," by yrs trly.

What a lovely compliment! Is the story anywhere we can find it quickly--was Classical Horses a book a library might have picked up?

And is 9 billion names of god SF or fantasy? %^)

"Death and the Lady" was in After the King (the Tolkien Centennial anthology) and then Gardner put it in his Masterpieces collection. Which is probably how it got onto this list.

"Classical Horses" was in Horsefantastic and then in some reprint antho or other.

I wouldn't be surprised if it got on there due to After the King, actually. I think Pratchett's Troll Bridge (also on the list) is in After the King as well.

A look through my stack of anthologies shows that Classical Horses appear in Horse Fantastic (from DAW, edited by Greenberg & Greenberg) and Horses! (from Ace, edited by Dann & Dozois).
