There's a flap going on about the Hugo nominees, which I have little interest in (flaps is flaps is flaps is spinach), but [livejournal.com profile] suricattus linked to an artist's take on the kvetching about the art Hugos, and lo and behold, the reason why Donato Giancola deserves a Hugo is illustrated by one of my covers: the one for The Golden Rose. It's a stunningly gorgeous cover, but I hadn't realized the Society of Illustrators agreed--and gave the art its highest award. Well deserved, and the blogger, as an artist, explains exactly why.

Sometimes, illustration really can be fine art.

The cover of "The Golden Rose" is powerful art. I thought your publisher had found a breathtaking bit of history for the cover when I got the book. And then when I read the passage in the book that fully described the scene depicted, I was blown away to realize it was a modern-day artist. Finally, an artist to keep up with *your* talent, Ms. Tarr! :)
