Sometimes I go into Laconic mode, as in, I don't have much to say to anyone, so I don't say anything. And this year has been wearing me out.
However you are all owed a lot of updates, and there is news. My dad is home, rather miraculously, and doing well with the help of a lot of support staff.
smoemeth has also (briefly) returned home, and my aunt will be arriving tomorrow for a long weekend, with intent to help my mom, which she will do, a lot.
On the book front, The Serpent and the Rose has been nominated for ALA Best Book for Young Adults. This is further proof that I have no ability whatsoever to judge my own work, because I would never have expected as much buzz as this one is getting. Tor certainly has done its job of getting the book out there.
The crapstorm continues, in various ways. I now need expensive dental work to go with all the other expensive repairs and replacements. Camilla has orchestrated her usual Pooka-feet-disaster to coincide with the latest Torture Lady clinic--this time he dinged his left fore, then reinjured it, and is on stall rest for a week. He is Not Amused. I told him to stop with the clinic avoidance already. He's off breeding season, too, until his leg is better, so that ought to motivate him. Watching him calculate the logistics of getting the job done with Pandora is worth the price of admission. (Starfighter meets Death Star. Much maneuvering ensues.)
TL will be here next weekend--the 27th-29th. All ride slots are filled and then some (mostly by Lipizzans--we're calling it Lipi-Con), but auditing is free, just bring a chair and whatever you like to drink. There will be food, lots of it, and plenty of heavy-duty learning happening. This is a moveable feast as usual--part will be in Marana. The parts that will be here will happen on Friday from 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. onward including dinner and a lecture (lecture is $10 for them as hasn't had at least 3 clinic rides), and Sunday from 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Come on down!

Date: 2007-04-19 03:17 am (UTC)Sending you hugs and support,
Derrick :-)
P.S. I hope your horses will heal from their accidents.
P.P.S. Tor is an excellent company. They are one of the few big publishers that will take unsolicited submissions from unagented authors, so I may just have a chance of getting my novel published. Crossing the fingers left and right.

Date: 2007-04-19 05:51 am (UTC)Well done. And may the Dance Of The Fat White Space Aliens go off with as few soap-opera moments as can reasonably be managed....

Date: 2007-04-20 12:33 am (UTC)Life has been a bitch lately. Glad R is getting some help and delighted that E is feeling better.
As for teeth. Less said to me the better.
Mane pats to Pooks and to you! Sorry I can't make the clinic.

Date: 2007-05-07 07:12 pm (UTC)I saw a comment you posted to a group that a friend belongs to (how's that for a tangle?) and was fascinated when I saw your profile. Lipizzans - how cool! :) I'm a bit of a horse junkie myself and a *cough* hopeful fantasy author. If it's okay with you, I'd love to browse your journal from time to time but I don't want to be a bother. Just let me know if you'd rather I keep my nose out of your business and I will! :)
Thanks -
Jen (with scruffy wild mustangs because Lipizzans are too good for me. *big grin*)

Date: 2007-05-10 01:08 am (UTC)Have you picked up the White Magic series? She wrote them under the pseudonym Caitlin Brennan and they are phenomenal novels! I just finished the third novel today. The titles are: The Mountain's Call, Song of Unmaking, and Shattered Dance. These books are an absolute MUST for everyone's library.

Date: 2007-05-16 10:49 am (UTC)Anyways, I was delighted to discover that you were a horse lover and you own and breed Lippizans. I confess I don't know much about them, but they are gorgeous animals, and I would love to see them in action someday, since they are the famous Italian dancing horses after all. I've heard them called the "Pegasus of the horse world." I have a good friend who saw them perform once. I confess, I was a little envious.
I myself would love to get into the equine business someday, and possibly work as a writer as well. (I'm looking into a college right now with a really good equine program so I can look into getting a BS degree in equine sciences. *crosses fingers*) It's been a long time since I've been up on a horse, and I miss them terribly. I'll admit to being rather partial to Friesians, and would like to own and breed them someday. It is the horse of knights that has stolen my heart, LOL.
Anyways...keep up the excellent writing, and I wish you all the best. I'll let you know what I thought of the White Magic trilogy when I finish it. It's really good so far.
Sorry to have prattled so much in your LJ, but I just thought I would pop up and say hi. Hope you don't mind.
Oh, and hope that your stallion Camilla gets to feeling better soon! :) I wish him a speedy recovery!
