Snow Day

This morning is a sight I haven't seen in a while: a world of white. I was out late last night after bedding down the horses, walking through the back acre. Crunch of snow underfoot, whiteness everywhere. This morning is cold, and it's brewing up snow again, though the sun is bright at the moment and the branches are shedding their load.

Pook was trapped in his stall for at least part of the night: a huge branch fell off the big pepper tree, 8 inches thick and 15 feet long. Thank god he wasn't in the run when it came down. He'd have been badly hurt or killed. I've got most of that sawed apart and ready to move out of there. He's in the stalls--no problem getting him out, the stall door was on the other side from the downed tree. He's OK, and everybody else is just bemused by all the weird white stuff.

I took a truckload of pictures and uploaded them here. Enjoy!

I'm so glad "The Pook" is safe. Boy, I wish we'd get some of that snow. We really need it here. All we have are the sub-freezing temps. ;-(

HEY! You're home! Did everything go OK? Did you meet the storm as you drove toward Phoenix?

Jeez, you'd think you were up in my part of the world, or something.

I love how bewildered your herd looks in all those pictures.

Wow, that's really lovely stuff you've got there! It rivals the scant 4 inches in my backyard here in the Great White North. Enjoy it while it lasts---I bet there are more than a few snowmen in the desert right now!

Wow.

LOTS of snow -- more than we've seen in Austin for 15 years. And a BIG branch. Glad the Pook is safe! Had he put himself in his stall because of wind, or did you tuck them all away last night? (This may have already been answered...

Goodness. Glad Pook survived the night. Hope you saw him first before you saw the tree limb down. I can only imagine the panic.

That landscape looks too surreal, and maybe it's just this splitting headache I've got at the moment, but those pictures make me think 'nuclear winter.' Well, that or Michigan. ;)

You know you're in Phoenix when a snow flurry is front page news. Last snow in Phoenix was 1998, and last measurable snow was Dec. 1990, which was also the last time it's been this cold.

What's this white stuff that settled on your succulents?

We've hardly seen any this winter...

(Brilliant pictures, I love your new user icon)
