POOOOKLET!
Jun. 2nd, 2006 06:05 amAbsolutely unexpected, the vet said she was empty but her owner kept insisting there was something in there. Then the mare started producing milk. Dead on schedule for that last, what-the-hell breeding, too close to the last ultrasound to find it.
From S., who owns the other Ayrab mare da Pook had trysts with last summer:
"At 11:30 last night, Gold laid herself down and very quickly, with no
problems at all, produced a very handsome colt! He's a Big Boy,
much bigger than my Arabian babies were. He's currently trying
to figure out how to control his long legs and where the dinner bar
is but he's making progress.
He's jet black, with a star and a big diamond on his nose, some
white on his lower lip and a couple of socks on two of his feet
(sorry, I'm pooped and I forget which ones, except one is front
and one is back) plus odd white spots on his other two feet.
He is really a gorgeous guy and BIG!
Gold is a good momma and has plenty of colostrum for him.
She started making colostrum on Wednesday and Thursday
was squirting milk at every step!
I cleaned out the birthing stall and put down two bales of
new straw so she had a great place for birthing.
I was watching her from the trailer and she was a bit
restless but when she went down I know something
was happening. By the time I got out there, feet
were already out and in a very short time she had
pushed out the rest of him. He had membrane over
his face and I quickly cleared it since it was affecting
his breathing."
It's 6 a.m. I'm off to get the morning chores done and beat feet the 50 miles east. My camera isn't working but S's is, so we'll get piccies. (Icon is Camilla and Carrma acting as stand-ins, they're his grandma and auntie after all. Mom is actually a mid chestnut.)
Whoo-hoo!

Date: 2006-06-02 11:06 pm (UTC)His kids are always big. Even out of the 14.1hh Morab, the result is 14.2 or 14.3. This one will be at least 15 hands. He's daddy on stilts.
