Rainy night tonight--but warm, about 55 and rising.  Horses are naked except for da Pook, who has his lighter blankie on, and Ephiny, who in hatrack mode has no meat on her bones and gets cold.  The air has the smell of desert rain--sharp with creosote, and just a little cold.

Yesterday was mostly horizontal again.  Capria got a longe in the evening, then Pook got a ride.  I was singularly unambitious, so took him Out instead of riding in the arena.  He was delighted.  He was in Explorer Pony mode, what with the people across the road doing major earth-moving (some of it onto my east acre--if they smashed my hedgehog cacti, I will not be amused) and keeping all the horses on the alert.  I would suspect the grotty trailer is going to be superseded by a house, but I could be wrong.  However there is a new driveway into their empty acreage, and a lot of roaring and rumbling and many piles of dirt emerging from it, so something is in process.

At any rate, I had to convince Pook not to head on down the new road, which he was all eager to do.  He settled for a ramble down the appropriately named Whitehorse Trail, then a ramble back.  It was pleasant.  He was mostly calm.  There were no eruptions.  We were pleased.

Today was beautiful in the morning, but there wasn't time for a ride, unfortunately--I would have liked to take keed out.  Instead I went with [livejournal.com profile] smoemeth  and [livejournal.com profile] casacorona  to the little Italian place in Corona de Tucson.  It's quite amazing: a bit of Little Italy in the middle of nowhere, and I mean nowhere.  Spectacular views of the whole Tucson Valley and Green Valley, mountains and desert and sky, and Wonderful New York-style food.  It's only 20 minutes from here.  They do takeout.  I see the future there.

I had a salad and calamari and tiramisu.  The others had antipasto and calamari and sausage calzone and cheesecake.  And it was good.

As I was taking [livejournal.com profile] smoemeth  back to Green Valley, I saw the Rincons completely socked in with rain--so didn't rush home to try to ride.  There was a decent squall right when I would have been saddling up.  The drive home was dry, but the rain came back after dark and is fairly steady now.  I'm noodling lightly with the draft of Song of Unmaking, as I'll be getting the editorial letter soon, and being warmed by assorted cats.  Tomorrow is forecast to be very wet but not very cold--a good day to noodle further.  Then in the evening, weather and flash floods permitting, we'll have a goodbye dinner for [livejournal.com profile] smoemeth  at the Agave, as she's off to Chicago and then New Haven on Thursday.  That will be my New Year celebration--I want a quiet couple of days, and New Year's Eve and Day will have to be it.  Sunday is lesson day and on Monday, weather permitting again, the Thundering Hordes will start arriving for the clinic.

Which I must pin people down on number of rides for, and then schedule.  And pray the weather is dry.  It can do anything it wants after the 10th.  Just not before then.

That sounds like a terrific place.

I found a very good weather predictor. At least it has been pretty good so far.

Loved that line -- I swear I could smell it.
