Today had redeeming social value. Page quota accomplished, more to come before I sleep. My existence is therefore justified.

I managed to work four horses, too. The day began terribly humid and blazingly hot, but by the time I'd saddled up keed after morning chores, the moisture boundary had passed overhead, clouds covered the sun, and it was lovely. Had a pleasant trail ride, then longed Capria (who was stiff for some reason; the longe was just what she needed), and finished up with Combat Walkies with Camilla. We tackled Cactus, a New Trail, Pooka being majorly boingy in the paddock nearby, and even a long wait at the start while she decided whether to move at all--and it was good. Happy Camilla. Happy human.

Then inside to work through the heat of the day. In the evening, which had turned hot again (humidity is rising and falling--very strange sensation), I did ring work with da Pook. My hands were all over the freaking place, but we discussed it and I stabilized them and we started to make sense. Though once we did, he didn't want to change the exercise (right trot circle)--he tried to tell me we had to do right circle All The Time. Uh, no.

He still has both shoes on. Icon is from our chiro vet, who brought a camera to a saddle-fitting session a couple of months ago. Close examination will tell you how he pulls his shoes off. Assume reins, me, too strong a half-halt, SQUOOOOOOCH!, two more inches of overstep, and CLUNK.

The icon is further distinguished by the fact that it represents a "dressage frame"...in a horse at liberty. It's natural, guys--if he moves like that, physics will dictate that the head and neck have to be there to balance the body. It's also a good example of a properly fitted saddle doing its best to accommodate a horse with Serious back movement (which is a Good Thing in a dressage machine).

I believe the chiro is going to use the photo to show clients why a saddle has to fit the horse when he's moving as well as when he's standing still.

So, a productive day. I'm debating whether Pook gets the lesson on Saturday. Probably, as it's a lateish lesson and will be hot--and Capria doesn't do heat well. Though maybe I need to spend more time figuring things out for myself. Must ponder this.

And now, more pages.

And so I hijack Connery's LJ handle to slink around in other LJs....when I saw that picture in your album, I said to self, "And there is why Pooka pulls his shoes." Ha. GMTA and all that.

(if you can get bounce messages to me, I'll handle the mail thing. Have you gotten any of my emails? Or am I just no longer getting yours?)
