I could have used another lazy morning, but it was a good one anyway. Bright, mild, sunny. Chiro vet came to check on the kids. Dr. Pat loves the Lipizzans, especially Pooka, and enjoys her annual checkups immensely: "I don't get to work on a healthy horse very often!" The horses love her. She's the Feelgood Lady.

The good news is that Pooka's saddle fits just fine and doesn't need any adjustment or extra tweaking. Considering his spherical shape and his extreme flexibility, this is a gift from the gods. He got to show off his gaits for Pat, who greatly admired his magnificent new canter. It's roughly the size of Nevada, and barely stays on the half-acre. (Pook in his own continuum, of course, is 17.3 hands. So far he's only managed to extrude 14.2 hands of that into this continuum, but the gaits came through intact. This makes for interesting reactions from horse experts who are not accustomed to Space Aliens in horse suits. "But--but--that's not physically possible!"

Camilla got kicked in a hindleg this morning and was sore, and had some TMJ going on--so it was a good time for her to get some Feelgood Fingers. She got acupuncture needles, too, for the bruised flexor tendon. Overall she's her usual perfect self, and her owies will only last a day or two. Even with a sore leg, she was able to impress her audience with her movement, which is the equine equivalent of the Imperial battleship going overhead in the opening sequence of Star Wars.

After Pat left, since the arena/turnout was open, I put the saddle back on da Pook and had a ride. He hadn't been sat on in two weeks and was very glad to see me coming. We had steering! We had brakes! We had transitions! It was a real ride! Short--but hey.

Ahhh, latent learning. Ya gotta love it.

Finished up the morning, after turning horses out, by taking the camera and getting some shots of the cactus in full bloom out back. Claret cup and ocotillo--two of my favorites. And lots more of both yet to come.

Ephiny is named after a character from Xena--the Amazon who fell in love with a Centaur. She's registered as Gloriosa II, by Favory II Bonasera III out of Gabriella II. If you click on my website, there's information and pictures there. New ones just went up. :)

She's also known as Bride of Pooka, because I asked for the breeding even though the stallion had not had a daughter in seven years--hoping for a mare for Pooka. She came out with indoor plumbing. We rejoiced. She's 2 this month, and she's really big for a baby Lipp. Over 15 hands already, which makes her taller than anybody but keed. And why I won't ride her, she says, she sure doesn't know.

Her truename is "She's HUGE!"

(glyph of Mary smacking her palm against her forehead) There's a web page! How long would I have gone on reading journal entries without ever noticing that?
