Somehow no pages happened today. I don't know where the day went, I really don't.

Well, first thing, horse chores as always. Then ponied ze keed out off Capria--nice if a bit sticky and more humid than it's been recently. Just as I was coming back, Curt the Wonder Shoer pulled in to do Capria and two of the Girlz. I tossed Capria's reins to him and he had his first ride on a Lipizzan. He was suitably impressed. She liked him a lot--never been ridden by a real cowboy before so was baffled by what he was doing with the reins, but she loved his seat.

That, followed by Shoeing And Trimming, ate up a great deal of day. Then there was a lot of not getting anywhere and wondering why, ending in an evening ride on da Pook, which went well. Warmup in arena, couldn't quite find my seat but he was quiet enough to take outside and go for a ride down the road. Found my seat there; he got a bit jiggy now and then, but settled right down when asked. He was a most excellent Pooka. A trail stallion--we like that concept. Then more nothing much and now it's 'Way Late and...no pages. Therefore I have not justified my existence.

Probably it's summer doldrums. The Fourth was pleasant. Cookout with burgers on the grill and homemade potato salad and corn and fixings, and homemade ice cream with fresh strawberries for dessert. Then fireworks. The golf course a mile or two away put on a very impressive show for these parts, which we were able to view from the yard. There were other shows around the horizon, so far away they were just colored flashes. The close-up show had some lovely fireworks; lots of color-changing and shape-changing rockets, and many reminiscences of a good Gandalf show, minus the dragon over Bywater.

Monday was quiet--I did get pages done, though not many; sometimes they come molecule by molecule and take all day to get a minimum of 5 pages or 1000 words. And today was, well, frustrating.

I should note apropos of the Lipizzan mind that while I was riding da Pook outside, there was fooling around up the road a piece, and when I was done and he was prospecting for treats-on-trees, idiots (and believe me, as dry as it is right now, they for sure are) started firing off rockets. He never turned a hair. I have seen them go nuts--Carrma will freak out if she had babies to defend--but for the most part, once they've made sure it's just a bomb and it's not about them, they don't worry about it. They're literally bombproof.

In other news, the barn bunnies seem to have hired two new ones to replace the one lost in the water barrel. Or maybe it was a stranger and they murdered it? There are now at least six in the gang of usual suspects, including, as of yesterday, a leetle teeny baby, about the size of my hand.

Quail families are increasing by the day--babies of all ages and sizes--and the cardinals are back; I saw the male in one of Pooka's favorite mesquite trees this evening. And the hooded oriole seems to have moved into the dogs' yard where the big trees are. There's an assortment of house finches and possibly purple finches round about as well. And bats in the evening, and tonight I saw a hawk moth zooming by.

Soon, monsoons. We had a very dry interval, which was actually quite pleasant, but the humidity is back and the clouds are streaming up from the south. It's a bit late but not ungodly so; average start is the 3rd.

awwwww. Cute bunny, Starfall.

I love hearing about your bomb proof dynamos.

Nice that your cowboy got a ride. Mary talked about maybe getting on Capria.

Shnurt. I love the Killer Bunny.

I actually wonder if the victim wasn't a stranger, because the whole family is definitely still there. All five were flopped artistically through the stalls this noon.
