After a cold and snowy winter (by Arizona standards), the roses are back and budding like budding things. Blue Girl wins the race to be First Rose, 2013. She's a little small, but she's in great form.
Heh. Why's she called Blue Girl, when she's clearly pink-and-white?
(If you disregard the flowering fava beans and rosemary, our first flower of the season is a California poppy. Unsurprisingly, probably, but I was surprised none the less.)
Phone cam tweaked the color. She's actually pinkish lavender in bud stage and bluish silver when in full bloom.
This is closer to the actual colo(u)r: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://cube.oit.duke.edu/~dds/roses/blue3.jpg&imgrefurl=http://duke.edu/~dds/roses/details.html&h=614&w=819&sz=150&tbnid=MhhQ8lOmSup6pM:&tbnh=116&tbnw=155&zoom=1&usg=__RU-PLfQEkHcvUBDFhu2xQLw6ylI=&docid=XB1cj1AnANRRYM&sa=X&ei=jfRVUffqKOOkiQK0g4DIDg&ved=0CEUQ9QEwAg&dur=21
I just go with pretty. And fragrant. Though I would like a "black" (well, dark, dark, dark red) rose), and those don't have much if any scent. The others will make up for it. I have Melody Parfumee AND Perfumed Delight. Quite heady on summer mornings when the jasmine is also in bloom.
I don't know if you are interested in miniatures, but there is a mini called Black Jade that is both fragrant and very dark.
That is such a pretty picture, we are truly a house of plague today. Paul has something nasty too, so my oldest has been rallying and carrying the house through the day.
