It's April, right? It's Palm Sunday today. It's, like, spring, you know? It's also 45 degrees and MUDDY. And the horses have therefore undergone Blanket Brigade, which involves hauling seven horse blankets through the mud, two by two and trying not to get mud on them, then slinging them over usually muddy backs and fastening them up and moving on to the next half-ton wiggleworm yelling I'm COLD, Mom! I Wanna Be WAAARRRRRMMMMM!

It's very athletic. I recommend it as an alternative to the Nautilus machine.

Amid the waterproof-breathable-horse-in-plaid gymnastics, I managed to drive to Tucson and pick up [livejournal.com profile] windrose and bring her back to the farm. The Fat White Ponies were very glad to see her, and Carrma, Mother of Nations, usually very aloof, insisted on giving her an audience.

Tomorrow, Tombstone. And Passover.

Woke up this morning to ...snow. All winter it doesn't snow, but April 4? There's two inches on the ground and it's still coming down.

I love Maine...

It still feels more like winter than spring back here too. Cold, windy, rainy. The cold wind has been rattling my house for two days now. Okay, the sun in shining this morning, but it's =freezing= out there.

Passover is prepared for: house clean, hummetz hunted, leaven burnt. Tho' it's rather odd to bound the area a full day in advance of the ritual.

Oh, that sounds like an exercise in frustration or Zen...

It's been cool here as well for the past couple of weeks, too cool really to swim, which is unusual.

We had snow in Tucson on April 4th a couple of years back--Easter Sunday, no less. It was 55 degrees and sunny at 9 a.m., but there was a wall of cloud rolling over the mountains. Think Fall of Numenor. At 9:30 it was 32 and blizzard conditions. I had just enough time to throw blankets on the horses before it hit.

There's a postcard of the San Xavier Mission in the snow. The photo was taken on that morning.

This morning is lovely, cool and bright. Good day to be outside. And of course tonight is seder night.

When Kate and I left for services on Palm Sunday (I go to St. Raphael's-In-the-Valley down here in Benson, a lovely, tiny little chapel congregation) we got hit with hail just slightly larger than pea-sized. It HURT. One got me right in the carotid as I got in the car and grazed the skin. Owie. But it's nice to see snow on the mountains again, as we saw very little of it this year.

After a few days of "summer" it has gone back to being rainy and chilly here too. I'm in Southern California, but at 8000' these things happen in April. :-)

I just sold my white Arabian a couple weeks back, but on muddy days his favorite sport was to roll in the mud. One once, but twice and sometimes thrice!

I'm glad windrose is with you and the horses.

Sorry you had to sell your white pony. Did you keep some colored ones?

Lipizzans of course come in such a wide range of colors. Grey. And grey. And grey, grey, or grey. Bay. Black. Grey, grey, grey, or grey.

He was the only one I had. Alas...:-( Due to a physical problem of mine I hadn't been able to ride him since last August and the poor boy was getting so feisty. I had also come to believe that he really wasn't the horse for me -- something that took me almost a year to face up to. But I had surgery last November and when my doc recently said I still shouldn't ride for awhile I figured it was time to let him go. Even though I know it was the best thing for him, it still makes me sad when I think about it.

I'm sorry. I hope you can ride again soon, and find just the right horse. Having sold one who wasn't right, I know the feeling. Sad--but relieved.

I hope your guy has a great home. Mine went to a wonderful lady who adores her.

Mine went to my farrier's wife. She's a trainer and loves Arabians so I felt pretty good about the sale. That can make all the difference.

Waving at everyone. Odd couple of days here as well. Glad you had fun at the "con".

Poor neglected horsies. Nice that they have blankies. Very glad I don't have to heft them.
