Date: 2010-01-27 03:26 am (UTC)Put a warm, soft cover on anything, even a stove, and a cat will curl up in it.
Actually, that's not right: just have a warm surface, and a cat will curl around it, on top of it, and inside it if possible.
Anecdotal point of fact: I earned my paralegal license back in the '90s. My instructor for Legal Research told a story of how, one cold, wet SoCal morning, his wife got into her car, turned the ignition, and heard, "Mrrow!" She did it again. "Mrrow!" (He made the "mrrow" sound like an engine trying to turn over, with hilarious results).
Anyway, the woman started up her car and drove just one block before she heard frantic meowing from under her hood. Terrified, she drove into a Jiffy Lube and told the mechanic on duty, "There's something in my car that's MEOWING at me!" Laughing, the mechanic popped the hood, and out climbed a badly singed ginger tom. Of course, she took Tom to the vet, got his burns (from the freshly started engine block) treated, and brought him home.
My teacher's last words on the story: "This cat is too stupid for words. My wife nearly kills him, and he won't stop rubbing against her, sitting on her lap, purring . . . I try to change his bandage and put more ointment on him, and he nearly claws my hand off!"
