Camp Lipizzan Update and Fall Sale

dancinghorseGreetings from the Land of the Endless Revision--revisions, line edits, and more revisions as far as the eye can see.
But, there is a horizon, and on it are some lovely things. First of all, it's time for another Mentoring Sale. Current mentees may participate. The regular rate is $40/hour. For the sale, I'm offering the popular four-hour package for $155, a saving of $5. In four hours I can read a synopsis and the first 50-75 pages of a ms. with close commentary and discussion, or to do a broader structural edit of the first 25,000 words or so of your ms. I also do short stories (a popular option these days) or poetry, plotting and development of a project, review of query and submission packages, an ongoing correspondence class in the art of writing--there's no end to the possibilities. If the project's scope or your needs run to more than four hours, I'm happy to work with you for as long as you need me. Some clients have been on the roster (and getting published!) for years. :) Reading of mss. will begin on October 15th. I am also offering custom stories. I love writing flash fiction, and for $100 I will write a short-short piece up to 1000 words, on a theme of your choice (subject to author inspiration and approval). Longer options are available as well; email for details. You get an electronic copy of the story, plus a signed and inscribed hard copy, and when or if the story appears in a collection, the story will be dedicated to you or to a person of your choice. This is a great holiday or special-occasion gift; I've done birthday presents for children as well as adults. This is one of my favorite things to do--you'll make me as well as yourself or your gift recipient happy.
And, ah yes, Camp Lipizzan. October Camp, from the 5th through the 9th, is full to the brim. November Camp, from November 5th-8th, has one or two openings. Email for details.
There are Camps taking shape in 2010 for January and April. February and March are open. For those who may be coming in via linkage, Camp Lipizzan is Horse Camp for Writers: a free-form, user-friendly gathering of writers for an average of three days (does not need to be a weekend; can take place at midweek if that works better for you), and up to five days for repeat campers and camper referrals. The basic format is writers' retreat: a quiet, rural location in southern Arizona near Tucson, with farmhouse amenities--two guest rooms, shared bath, friendly room cats (though we have a Cat-Free Room for those who need it)--and good plain food, and of course hot and cold running Lipizzans. This is a working horse farm; the schedule revolves around the horses. Campers can participate as much or as little in that part of the experience as they choose. We offer a session with our trainer, who does yoga for riders, equine sports massage, and riding instruction, for an additional charge. This is popular: the October session has grown into a nearly full-day clinic with all hands on deck. :)
As for the writing half of the experience, this is also up to the individual. Most campers like the writer's retreat model: an alternating schedule of getting together to talk about writing, and going off to write on one's own. The house is roomy, with wi-fi DSL and comfy chairs; there are five acres to wander around in (lots of wildlife, and big shady trees for sitting under), and rural roads for walking and running. October Camp will feature a writers' workshop with ms. reading and critique, led by one of the campers. Other camps are more free-form and feature a whole lot of intensive writing.

So I'm telling you. Go see. Play. Make PR Goddess happy. Save me from being thwapped by a salmon.
