Every morning when I get up, what with the life of a freelance writer/horsebreeder being intimately connected with the hours of the day but not with days or dates, I first run through which day of the week it is. On Tuesday, the theme song comes from the old Mickey Mouse Club: "Today Is Tuesday..."

And today is Tuesday. The car is fixed. I think. It should make it to Phoenix (and Gilbert and Tempe) this weekend for Famous Author Things.

Reality is asserting itself, after a fashion. Confusion is turning into order--friends gathering (lunch with Christy and Janni today), Kath's affairs being settled by a group at the apartment, everything slowly settling itself into a new arrangement, minus one of its familiar elements. Life goes on in a very literal way.

Reality on the farm will stay in flux for another week because of the Famous Author Thing plus the friend getting full knee replacement thing. I'm getting that antsiness I like to feel: wanting to get back to my real work of writing books and riding horses. I'll be -ready- when all the foofaraw is over.

So will the horses. We are already dealing with accusations of Abuse and Neglect from the resident workaholics. Keed was happy to get his birthday ride yesterday but sulky not to have had my undivided attention. He wants it all day, every day, of course, as do they all, but this, he says, is Right Over The Top. Pooka is oogling those big brown eyes at me and making his ears curl even more adorably than usual, in hopes that I'll come and ride him. Capria just sighs. And Camilla the War Mare stalks over to the gate and Glares. Want Out, she says. Want Out Now.

Unfortunately they don't understand the concept of "Next week for sure, guys." Horses are all about RIGHT NOW. So they have a call in to the World Horse Union, and I suffer the opprobrium of the equine masses.

I imagine the problem of sorting out books alone--the ones Kath had borrowed from other people, the ones other people had borrowed from her--is a major, major headache. Sorting those out from all the Neb books--yow.

Ruled by Horses. It's as bad as being Ruled by Cats, isn't it?

There was a big bunch of people pitching in. I'm sure some of them will report on the event in time.

I -am- Ruled by Cats.

I placated the Ladies this evening. Capria had a longe, which pleased her--it was Work, after all. Camilla again demanded Out, and got Out. Even better in her mind, she got Out in the hay pile, where she happily pigged out while I did the evening chores.

In the Do Not Do This At Home department: transferring young stallion (in spring hormones) from one pen to another by route that necessitated leading him three feet away from young mare's ample behind. There was some arching of neck and a flared nostril, but he knows better than to put a foot (or any other part of his anatomy) out of line while being led by Mom Who Must Be Obeyed. She, being a mare in the throes of devouring all the available alfalfa, ignored him completely.

Sorting out what Kath had borrowed was easy — she'd already done that, leaving them on the diningroom table labeled for return. As for returning what was borrowed from, I think everyone has tacitly decided to forget about that. Most of her books were sold off yesterday, with those not taken donated to the county library (for use or sale as part of the friends of the library).

It's peer pressure

I'm a victim. Or something. I've been reading LJ all weekend, decided this evening that I need to be a part of it. So I am.

I'll see how I like the whole anonymity thing; it's a first for me.

It's lethal. It's the most like GEnie of anything I've seen.

Another old GEnie-ite arrives

Here's another one who's decided to give LJ a try. The chance to be in touch with you again is just too appealing to pass up. I only wish it could have come about some other way.

MARY! Is that you? It's wonderful to see your phosphors again!

Yes, a very sad reason, but something good has come out of it. That makes things a little easier, at least for me.

I'm here, too, tho DMNet is my first home. I've posted a huge set of posts on Caryn's impressions based on a 2-hour+ phone call with her last night as she wound down. I can forward that in mail, Twinling, but you will never again be left out. I was networking as fast as I could and foolishly assumed you'd been notified -- I knew Christy and Caryn couldn't -- they were both on the road as fast as they could be and, eventually, stayed at Kath's sorting out literary executrix stuff. I haven't had your email in awhile -- have no idea why -- and wasn't here. I keep thinking of people -- like Starfall -- and wondering if they know.

Hey, Mary. Adding you to my friends list [tho I should be working still -- my boss has been very forgiving this week.

Hugs, Barb. If you mean the general facts, I've had those in ongoing progression since Friday. I was on Sioux's first e-mail notification list--in fact I looped Janni and Larry in as she didn't have their addys, and let Beth and Katie and Jenn know as well. Christy dropped me a note as soon as she decided to head Tucsonward. It's been an amazing demonstration of the efficacy of the bush telegraph.

I'm not on dm--the usual reasons of time, space, etc.--so I would love to see the posts if you can forward them.

I've been thinking of Starfall, too. I had his addy on the old computer, but haven't had a message from him since I got the new one. It's alanh@something, but dinged if I can remember what. I'm hoping he sees the book-fair PR and comes by.

I keep saying how good it is to see all the old phosphor faces. And it -is.- I lost GEnie some time before it died when I got a computer that wouldn't interface with it, and I've been missing it ever since.

Let's not lose it again. Deal, guys?

Rats. Didn't mean to post something stupid. Like nothing. Shoot me an email to barbaradenz@hotmail.com with your email address and I'll forward what I posted. Am also likely to talk to Caryn tonight and will update you.

silly question

The Lipp in the initial picture for this thread looks like he or she is... sneezing? Or giving someone a really derisive horse laugh.

That's da Pooka. He's yawning. His Court Photographer (Lynne Glazer, equine photographer extraordinaire), was over here early one morning when he was feeling very silly. We have all kinds of pictures of him doing silly things.
