Pimpage. Yes. Out this week: The Last Paladin. Those who wait for all volumes of a series to come out before buying and/or reading, this is it. Go! Buy! Enjoy!

The week was, as advertised, Lost. Lesson learned: Never sell the one horse in the barn who is not trained to load on a trailer, and then totally space out on making sure he gets trained before the trailer arrives to take him to his somewhat distant home. It came out all right in the end, and he really got to know his new trainer, whom he likes very much, and I got to meet some wonderful horsepeople whom I'll be privileged to know for years to come, but seriously, brain. Not the smartest thing you ever did.

Oreo did finally leave on Thursday (the trailer arrived Saturday evening), and he's safe at the trainer's now, polishing up his manners and getting to know his human. When they're both ready, he'll go to live with her, and life will be good.

In the midst of this, and despite really not being able to afford it, I had a lesson with S. I needed it, Pooka needed it, we said heckwithit and did it. It was mostly review of previous work, with emphasis on half-halts and changes of bend, aimed at encouraging him to rock back onto his hindquarters, use both hindlegs, and stop falling on his right shoulder and slacking off on the left hind. It was also about me getting the point regarding the correct seat, and not bracing or blocking. With this in mind, S brought her camera, and here are the photos she sent, with instructions to notice which one Pook liked better and why.

Braced back, wtf? from Pooka (he used to be like this all the time, so the fact it's a temporary situation is progress):

Softer back, need to get chin and sternum up to allow full raising of back, but we're getting there:

I realized, seeing this, that I do lift the sternum on my own, but in lessons I fold up. Must be a remnant of urge to curl up fetally in front of toxic trainer. Will work on this. Also on changes of bend, shoulder-in, shoulder-out, and lots of sitting trot. And RELAX!!! while doing so.

It was a good lesson, and helped a great deal with various stresses and bothers. Pooka was happy, which is what it's really all about. And Oreo has gone off to his wonderful new life, which will be recorded photographically, I'm assured, by the incomparable [livejournal.com profile] lynnesite. I can't wait to see.

Oh totally not!

Didn't you see him in previous pictures...he was like, "Jeff...you could totally be my human..." and I'm like, "Oh....shiny pony..."

:(

(I kid...but only just...)

About the size of Nevada, with a piece of Utah thrown in. His canter's even bigger. Reaches clear to his elbow from behind.

The book is making its way across the pond already. :) Well, it has started is long, perilous journey, anyway.
