to everybody who said nice things about the EW review. I gather we get to see it this weekend. W00t.

Welcome to new friendlies, including Lipizzaner-list familiar face (moderator-who-must-be-obeyed sees 'em all, knows 'em all, mwahaha).

This was supposed to be Oreo's Day of Reckoning, but the vet got backed up with cascading emergencies and the boy has a week's reprieve. Which puts him out to, wait for it, "Bewaaaaaarrrrree the Iiiiiiiides of Maaaarrrrrrch."

I just want to get it over with. The aftercare is a two-week bitch. Also, it will be good to enlist the mares to help. And he wants to be out with the herd instead of in purdah. Except, you know, spring. Mares want boy. This boy does not get mares.

Yesterday he was fluttering outside Pandora's pen like a moth at a window. Flap-flap-yearn. She ignored the little twerp* in favor of his dad, who was some distance away and highly yearnable.

*Well, not so little in vertical terms, he's 14 hands and counting, which for a 9-month-old colt is not trivial, but it's mostly legs and baby fuzz. She likes her men short, tanky, and handsome.

I have finally seen copies of the new book--FedEx has appeared. Is purty.

It's hard to imagine there is Spring and Hormones happening somewhere when we had 3-6 more inches of snow and they're telling us sub-zero temps for tonight!

Cold and OUCH!

Lucky Oreo.

I agree it's hard to imagine spring with it being so cold. As a random question - have you taught before? There was a discussion on another journal about sf/f authors who are also professors/teachers. I know you mentioned at some point having a degree in...Latin? Romantic Studies? Something like that? But i couldnt remember if you'd actually braved academia.

As someone who (barely) survived her Medieval Latin class back in the spring of '92, I can attest that yes, she did brave academia for a time. ;)

oh my heavens. You are a BRAVE BRAVE sister! My baby-sis would NEVER have braved one of my classes when I was teaching :). And I was even teaching stuff about the language we both speak, in it's modern version!

Well, I kinda had no choice. ;) It was the final class I needed to complete my Medieval Studies major (yes, it runs in the family :}), it was second semester senior year, and it was the only section offered.

;> well, you know, you got there eventually! My sister did Opera at The Conservatory. which is still relevant, but I suspect SOME of her instructors would roll their eyes....

www.tuias.ca (she's Panthea)

They may be MORE in favor of her more classical work (eg here: http://www.solacesongs.com/), but it's TUIAS that gets her artistic juices flowing :)

You are begging for retribution. Begging for it, I say.

Sibling snottitude aside, I've done a lot of teaching--high-school Latin, writing in many forms, Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics and Liberal Studies at Wesleyan for a while. I missed that a lot when I moved to Arizona, though I don't regret the move itself, at all. I did Clarion twice in the 1990s. I do freelance editing and mentoring now, working one on one, mostly online, which I like a lot.

Degrees in English, Latin, Classics, Medieval Studies.

As a random question ( a couple of days before i send my application materials out ) what did you think of Clarion?

They're talking record highs for us by Monday. I called and booked the guy to come and set up the coolers.

Last week it was 29F one morning.

It's been that kind of year.

Okay, I could be officially jealous. It's -6, and low is now officially forecast for something -10 or lower.

I wish I'd thought to store a couple of 110 degree days away so I could pull them out on nights like this and thaw my fingers out!
