Quiet. No alarums or excursions. Cat barf down to a minimum. Dog poo ditto. (Remember, it's a glamourous life.) Performed Household Maintenance Task(tm), namely, replacing dryer vent hose. Household Maintenance and I are not good friends (unlike Barn Maintenance or even Yardwork), so this is worth noting. Aaaaand...I wrote Pages! Actual Pages! And did webwork--my WebGoddess does the real work, but she's been updating the site (and creating a new one, TBA), and there is much to discuss.

This evening, what with all the other things going on, I only had time for one horse, so I opted to pony keed, which allowed me to ride Capria and lead him. Two at one blow. Capria was very happy to get out for a ramble. So was her kid. The wildflowers continue to bloom like mad. Greasewood is going to little puffy seedballs. Mesquite is getting into bloom. Prickly pear is starting here and there--beautiful yellow flowers on the spiny pads. I've seen some cholla blossoms elsewhere--shading from carnelian to crimson and magenta--but none nearby as yet.

We had a hint of monsoon season, struggling against the spring westerlies: flotillas of cumulus above the mountains, and some high storms, but the rain never got as far as the valleys. This cooled the afternoon down very nicely, which is why we love monsoons. The real ones of course won't begin until late June at the earliest. This is just a stray moisture fetch from Mexico.

More pages tonight. 24 on the PVR. My favorite kind of day.

It's that time of year. Ah-CHOOOO!

Larry, you've eaten cholla stalks? You're braver than I am. I've had nopalitos (prickly pear)--those are kind of nice in a celery-crunchy kind of way--but never tried the other varieties.

Heh. No, I've read desert survival guides warning me not to unless I know exactly what I'm doing. There are a couple barrell cacti that really do have good water, but again, only if you know which to cut open.

Now I want prickly pear jelly for my lunch. Mmm.

The closest I've ever come to eating cacti was a prickly pear margarita.

We must get you to try a salad with nopalito and jicama.
