For two days my DVR receiver has been flat hosed--clicking off every five minutes, losing signal, then getting it back. A new one is on the way.
So this evening the recording function (which still works) clicked on Smallville...and hasn't malfunctioned since.
I guess it just took a show with superpowers. It was Gilmore Girls that hosed it in the first place. (Jumping the shark is hell on the technology.)
My DVR receiver is a critic. Who knew?
Lessons today. Pook has progressed enough that Teacher decided to torture me instead. She got really mean. She made me ride without reins. Feel the spine, apply the seat, make sure trunk has sufficient PSI either up/down or on one side. Connect with horse. NO HANDS!
I got blown off a lot. There was gravitational attraction toward Teacher. But slowly we started connecting, and coordinating on which direction he was going in. The interesting part is that I've worked so hard on my less adept right turns that I couldn't do left turns at all. But we got there eventually. With only one meltdown on my part--I pushed too hard and he went boingity by way of telling me to Stop That. I did. He did. And we went on.
Pooka's walk got huge and free as I worked on all of this: clear indication that I've been overusing the hands and blocking him with my seat. Which is why we do this exercise to begin with.
The nice part is, I was riding Camilla last night and thinking I need something more, and this is it.
Also nice: Pook came out to be saddled with a major 'tude on. Behaved perfectly throughout his lesson (bear in mind, I had no easy way to steer--it had to be correct aids and consensus). Put his 'tude back on afterwards. He clearly understands what Work is about.
We are pleased.

Date: 2006-09-29 10:02 am (UTC)I had to think of Mimo - put a headcollar on him, and it was hoolie time, and he went _quite_ wild - tack him up and he'd be the impersonated gentleman.
I had to laugh at the steering efforts. I remember a lunge lesson at von Neindorff's where I had no reins and was told 'and now we'll work on your halt-trot transitions.'
Err, help? (Got them in the end, but getting them, and getting them square and on the dot were two seperate things.)

*actually understands COMPLETELY!*
I've been playing with dressage for "trail" (well, riding in the BEEEEEEEG field rather than the LEEEEETTLE round pen) horses this week, working with Joy (I'm back to riding. It's HEAVEN!) and OH so effective. And OH how bent left my horse is. *sigh*
and the hands. Yes. I know. Hear you. Empathize. Fears what scary TL would say to me...
as for GG -- I didn't think this weeks ep too bad, though last season left me seriously MEH!
Also, in TV related news -- The first season of McLeod's Daughters is due out on Region 1 DVDs on Oct 24 per Amazon.ca. YAY! ;). If you talk nicely, I may even be convinced to bring the copies I will inevitably own down south with me....

Date: 2006-09-29 07:06 pm (UTC)I started lungeing Crumble, but the ground is so rock hard that he said 'ouch' so our sessions were little more than 'c'mon, you can make an effort at pretending to be obedient, and would you please trot around the circle once or twice, if it's not too uncomfortable' rather than workouts.
It's a combination of barefootness and joints that were hammered too much when he was young; plus the 'school' really *is* awful and a challenge even to a young and fit horse.
No point on getting on him. I'm having _serious_ withdrawal symptoms and the fear that should the stars align at some point this year I'll have forgotten how to ride.
I'm pretty confident that he won't have forgotten how to be ridden, which is at least a little consolation.
