Oh lord, have I been absent this long?

I've been in breeding-season hell. Result: 0 for 3 on attempts to get mares bred. They're all too old or too slow or too something. Much much much much time and money gone for naught. I'm looking at it as my purchase price for Pandora, who is now (as soon as it stops being 110 degrees) destined to be my cure for show nerves. She's very happy with that, but agrees that dressage training at 110 degrees is not humane. And More Hose, Please.

We are still breeding, I should add. Ember managed to arrange matters so that there was no way she was getting bred at home by her nice vet, so [livejournal.com profile] lynnesite and Twix Victim Number Two brought her to Arizona last week and deposited her in the garden apartment we keep for our mares at the spa. Carrma and Pandora shared it, now Ember's got it. The vet wants da Pook for her at 6 a.m. tomorrow, which for many reasons is not happening, so I'm waiting to hear whether we're taking him there tonight to stay over, or arranging a later engagement tomorrow.

A very nice side effect of [livejournal.com profile] lynnesite and TV2's visit was a lot of photo shooting. Icon is one result--there are 461 shots in the CD, being edited slowly as time permits.

We've learned a lot about Pook's breeding-season parameters, discovered that he can and will pasture-breed like a gentleman, and confirmed his AI training and his general obedience training. Though the hiatus in riding because of a parlous growth phase meant some Interesting moments once I finally got back in the saddle, he did settle down and he's very happy with his two jobs. And that is good. So is the fact that though I've had very few real lessons for months (most of the time being spent training Camilla in very unconventional fashion), once I got back on him, it was all there, much better than before. Latent learning is da best.

Now we're getting ready for the Lipizzaner Gala in Tucson on September 17th, details of which can be found here on, oddly enough, the "Gala" page. Pook is going, of course, and all three Girlz. I debated taking Pandora in the show, but with just two months to prepare plus four others--all young, hormonal, and attitudinal--to think about, I opted for the better part of valor. Ephiny will be particularly interesting considering her size, alphatude, and current Issues with doing what she's told. I've asked a marathon runner to run her through the triangle, which should help. There is much much much to do to make this happen, not just training the horses but helping with the arrangements--it gets a little all-consuming at times.

On the book front, the Tor book does make progress, and will be finished, though the distraction level has been toxic. The contracts arrived for the second LUNA series, labeled thereon as "Judy's Second Trilogy I, II, and III," which I found amusing. So that's official. Or as official as it gets before the check clears.

Cele reports that Tia is doing great--very independent and full of herself, i.e. she's one of mine, oh yes. She's two months old already. Amazing. And that much closer to making it down here.

And that's basically it. Deep thoughts aren't happening, and Perky we ain't. We would like even slightly cooler weather and a dash of monsoon, please. But we are alive, breeding season will eventually end, and we might even get a foal out of it. That would be good.

Was just thinking about you a couple nights ago, wondering how things were going on both horse and writing front.

If you need to vanish between now and then, will be looking forward to your report after the show in September.

I had wondered where you'd gone, and figured Work to be the cause.

Best wishes for the show prep and baby potential.

I can't believe it's been a year since we were there for a visit!

Like others, I was beginning to wonder why you hadn't posted in so long.

aargh to the busy breeding season and to the less than perfect results!! Hopefully Ember decides to cooperate this time. :D. Silly gals, with the not taking. I know when we bred Juno, we were REALLY not sure she would catch.

you've been missed, but I kinda guessed why ;D.

The egg was well developed and could be thrown at any time, the sperm needed to be shipped post-haste, when it arrived it was only at 1/2 strength because the stallion had been pasture bred that morning, and then, after all that, Juno still hadn't throw her egg a 3 days AFTER AI when we finally took her home. this was with an injection for her to throw it and everything. And yet, she caught. And then she was evacuated in September, and in April, we had a JJ foal.

It seems sometimes the stars line up, and sometimes they just. don't. I DO hope that the stars turn around for you though, so that there is foal joy next year.

And I think more Tia pics are needed in all your free time ;) *NODS*

um, that will teach me for doing cut and paste editing without reading before hitting "post." I hope you can follow the disjointedness.

Damn on the 0 for 3, but glad you are not giving up. Very happy you have the one, two, three book contracts.

Thanks for the URL, looking forward to following the adventures.
