Usually, good desert dweller that I am, I welcome rain--we need it badly, especially now that we're in a millennial drought.

But crikey, not this week!  Without a covered arena and with an arena that turns to mire when very wet, I am not in a good position to host a riding clinic with guests from far away.

The adventures have already begun.  This morning at horse breakfast it started to rain.  It rained just long enough for us to cancel lessons--then stopped shortly after the lessons would have begun, and stayed stopped all day.  It's back now, drat it.  And tomorrow and Tuesday are supposed to be Cold And Wet.  Very , Very Wet.

Today at least, I took the opportunity to finish the cleaning frenzy that got interrupted by Christmas.  Took down the tree, cleared away the decorations, cleaned up after same.  Cleaned and vacuumed sleeper sofas for the guest overflow.  Made sure the guest room and the office (which will have a cot set up in it) were ready to go.  Cleaned some cupboards including the two big ones with all the wine glasses and bric-a-brac, which involved washing and drying and putting away.  Made two pork pies for later in the week.

And now I have messages from the Texas contingent--their truck is having trouble and they are driving straight through, don't dare shut it off.  They'll be here about 12 hours sooner than expected.  This means stowing two strange horses in stalls because of the rain, and hoping there aren't any wars through the stall bars.  Capria and keed especially can be whirling dervishes.

My main prayer is that the rain not be so heavy or accumulate so much that the arena is unusable for the clinic.  The actual lessons days are supposed to be sunny, but that's not much good if we're trying to slip and slide through mud and standing water.

Oy.

We will at least have clean glasses for the drinks we will all undoubtedly need while we wait on weather, mechanical problems, and other manifestations of Murphy.  And pies to eat if we get hungry.

And I need to read story proofs before I sleep--they're due tomorrow.  Ooops.

My soggy sympathy--at least there are no Events here. The storm that's hopefully working on leaving here has dumped another 3 or 4 inches, on the bright side I haven't had to refill water troughs in days. Twix likes to cruise looking for buckets or containers left out and drink the rainwater from them. In between storms we've drained quickly, I hope you're as lucky with your mire. I let them out as soon as the rain stops for soggy fun. We seem to be somewhat done with blankets, despite another 14 or so inches in the last week, the hairy mudballs aren't asking for blankets. A whole lot of serious eating going on, stoking those furnaces.

I am so sorry. After reading the weather report I was afraid it would be cold, but I didn't see that much rain. Here my basement is 2 inches deep.

I shall give my corn goddess a new flake and ask her for sun for you.

It's supposed to get cold tomorrow here--blanket time for sure. The horses from Austin left 85-degree temps, so they've had a bit of a transition. They seem to be enjoying it.

Thank you. We got some today. Maybe tomorrow we'll get it again. Meanwhile, it is swim city.

Sympathies on the flooded basement!
