I vaguely remember that bit. If it was four-beat, it was a gallop. A gallop doesn't need to be very fast--a hand gallop is probably what the horse was doing, and that can be surprisingly slow. If it was three-beating, it would have been a canter.
To further muddy the issue, in Europe a "galop" is a canter.
