Horseblogging on BVC Today

It's Monday, and that means Horseblog. Today is for the writers who are not horsepeople but who need a few useful terms for the bits and pieces of the transportation. I'm starting off with key parts of the horse, and the mare/stallion/gelding conundrum. Will be carrying on with different sets of definitions (including common ailments aka How to Kill Your Horse Without Really Trying, and of course, Tack) over the next few weeks.

And, as an early warning/announcement, on August 10th I'll be changing Story Day from Wednesday to Monday. This is more in line with site tradition, which likes to feature a blog on the same day an author has a front-page offering. This week and next, we'll continue with Story Wednesday. Then on the 10th, Story Monday begins and will continue.

I REALLY hope that the writers out there read your blog on this, cause I'm sure you are probably as irritated as I am when reading about 'haltering and saddling' the horse for riding or other ignorant mistakes.

now, if only the illustrators who do cover art could get the placement of girths and stirrups and bridles right..... :)

This was an excellent refresher. I still remembered much of this information, but there's no denying that I was much more knowledgeable about horses when I was about eight. Sigh. The days when I would draw my own anatomy charts of horses for fun.
