Succumbing to the Lure of the Blog
I've done it, the thing I swore I would never do: I started a LiveJournal. It's the influence of a friend who is now missing, and her community of friends (late of the much mourned GEnie SFRT) which has gathered to find her; I've been reminded (as so often of late) of how important that community is to me, and how long I've been off doing my own thing. It's a lovely life up here on the mesa, but sometimes it's good to remember there's a big world out there, and good people in it.
So, welcome to my mesa. When I wear one large, floppy, purple-velvet hat, I'm an author with a load of books--search amazon.com books for Judith Tarr and you'll find lots and lots. When I wear another, spiffy, tricorne hat, I'm a breeder and rider of Lipizzan horses aka Dancing White Horses of Vienna aka Fat White Ponies aka Really Weird Space Aliens in Horse Suits.
Also, I am owned and operated by five cats, two dogs, and a very old, very numinous, very mysterious white goat who was on the farm when I bought it. At that time she was ancient. She is still, ten years later, going strong. We think she may be immortal. She is certainly Evil, and she has plenty to say on numerous subjects. She may end up posting here, who knows?

I'm sorry this was the precipitating event.
But welcome, anyway.

I'm also newly Livejournal-enabled in the wake of the present calamity; when I realized just how many friends and former GEnie-ites were hereabouts (and more active here than on either of the other post-SFRT communities), it seemed like the right thing to do. Mine may be an intermittently updated journal, but we'll see how it goes.
Meanwhile, it really is good to reconnect.

I had been told about this--by Sioux, Kath, Ashley, others. No time, I said. Timesink to da max, I said. No way, I said.
I get here to check messages on windrose's lj and my god, it's GEnie!
That was it, it was all over.
It is SO GOOD to see you guys again.

So many people have reappeared because of this. It's a terrible tragedy, but this part of it has been a blessing.

I have found LJ to be much more like GEnie than any other service, both in ambience and function.
welcome
I find my livejournal to be a remarkably soothing place, very Genie-like indeed (except for the dire need for a 'read all new' switch for my f-list). And actually less of a timesink than certain mailing lists!
