Kaz in Action

Quiet today. Very very tired. Not very functional. But I did some yard work plus the usual horsework, and finished the last bits of tidying in the house. The empty crate is still there. I'll clean it thoroughly next week, and move Spot into it; it's bigger and she can stretch out in it.

From [livejournal.com profile] birdhousefrog, a shot from March 2007.

I miss him. But it was time for him to go. There was so little of him left.

Take it as easy as you can today. You need to grieve. Even though it was time for him to go -- and I know it was, he was so very old and tired -- you have still lost a friend.

It's always hard to lose a loved one, however little there is that was left. Remember, and grieve, and miss him, and cherish those you still have.

You probably don't need telling this.

Be good to yourself today. It's always hard to say goodbye, even when you know it was time.

What a lovely boy. I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Just because it was time doesn't make it easy.

That it was his time to go might make accepting his absence a little easier, but that still doesn't make the empty spot feel any less empty.

I know you know all that.

I'm so sorry.

*hug* I am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry you lost your companion. He and my old kitty Ambush were the same age. I lost Ambush a month ago. Even when it is their time and you know it, it doesn't make it any easier.

When our old cocker, Mandy, died, I know I had trouble with the same kind of reconciliations. She was fourteen, she couldn't hear, she was getting arthritis in the hips and the vet said she'd stroked out. They didn't even have to sedate her. We'd neglected her terribly those last few years (me at college, sister in high school), and I think that's why we're putting so much into crazy Miley now. We regret, even though we loved our dumb-as-a-post dog so much. When we moved to NY, I actually found Mandy's collar in a box of random stuff. Tim wanted to throw it out, but I wouldn't let him. Just because.

Dogs are family, and it's never easy to let them go, even when they've had such a long and fulfilled life.

This is Reggie:

At one point in my life, she was someone I came home to, who was glad to see me. Then she got along with Julia, so I decided I could, too. Turned out to be right.

Reggie died young, of one of those big-dog cancers, about 2 years ago. I still miss her.
