I could Not resist this

While checking out Smashwords' promo for Read an Ebook Week, I just had to grab this one.

Ars Magica's on sale for the week starting tomorrow at 50% off, over at Book View Press.

I am having fun with this. Sometimes it's a gas to live in the future.

Love it.

I just googled smashwords and the first thing I saw was, Smashwords ebooks cost a fraction of paper books.

Which is actually a point of controversy, since ebooks are not necessarily sold at a fraction of the cost of paper books, nor should they be. Interesting. Is this mainly self-published people who have no overhead?

They were. They courted the Book View authors, who have publishers'-row cred, because so much of what they get is not ready for prime time. So we have a storefront there.

Distribution is a big issue here in the future, as you know. BVC is signing on with various outlets to get the books out there. As for overhead--we're a volunteer operation. That helps.

Not going to get into the whole fight over prices. Too much heat, not enough light. What really honks me off is that amazon forces enormous markups on books they sell, so that they can then "discount" them and make buyers think they're the good guys. Amazon makes me want to spit.

Amazon sounds like it sleeps with the health insurance companies...

Good to know. Wish I had long before.
